Honolulu, Hawaii – The Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS) proudly announces the release of its latest publication, The Indo-Pacific Mosaic: Comprehensive Security Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. This landmark book celebrates the Center’s 30th anniversary and reflects three decades of fostering peace, collaboration, and understanding across the Indo-Pacific region.

Bringing together insights from 27 leading experts, this comprehensive volume examines the complexities of security in the Indo-Pacific. From geopolitical rivalries to societal resilience, The Indo-Pacific Mosaic offers actionable strategies for promoting peace, stability, and resilience across the region.

Acting Director Russell Bailey emphasized that this book honors Senator Daniel K. Inouye’s legacy and underscores the Center’s unwavering commitment to advancing security cooperation throughout the region.

What’s Inside the Book

  • Disruption and Uncertainty in the Indo-Pacific: Explore the region’s evolving challenges, including globalization’s shifting dynamics, China’s ascent, advancements in reusable rocket technology, cooperative approaches to water security, and the resurgence of jihadist terrorism.
  • Great Power Competition: Gain insights into geopolitical tensions, such as Chinese expansionism in the South China Sea, South Korea’s Indo-Pacific strategy, India’s strategic autonomy, the Compacts of Free Association, and the often-overlooked influence of Myanmar and smaller South Asian nations.
  • The Imperative for Cooperation: Discover opportunities for collaboration, from Sino-American environmental security efforts and ASEAN’s regional leadership to lessons from New Zealand’s pandemic response and U.S.-Lao health cooperation.
  • Building Resilience and Security: Learn strategies for combating hybrid warfare, addressing sea slavery, shaping U.S. policy on China’s nuclear expansion, promoting leadership for positive peace, safeguarding critical submarine cables, and integrating gendered security analysis into policy.

Editor Dr. James M. Minnich remarked, “This book is more than a collection of insights; it is a call to action for policymakers, scholars, and practitioners to embrace the power of collaboration and the agency of all regional actors.” Collaborating with such distinguished experts, he asserted, has been a privilege.

As DKI APCSS marks 30 years of fostering dialogue and cooperation, The Indo-Pacific Mosaic stands as a testament to the Center’s enduring impact on regional security and its vision for a more collaborative future.
