The Alumni Programs Office is pleased to announce the winners of the 2017 Marshall Center Alumni Scholarships.  This year, we solicited applications from nearly 12,000 alumni, and received over 200 proposals for 8 available scholarships.  The Faculty Scholarship Committee read through all proposals and careful consideration was given to each one.  In the end, 8 winners were selected based on a variety of factors, with priority given to research topics that are of the greatest interest to the Marshall Center and its stakeholders.

The 2017 Scholars are:

Mr. Dusan Fischer, Slovakia, “The Fragile Flank: Assessment of NATO Assurance Measures in Central and Eastern Europe.”

Ms. Nino Lolashvili, Georgia, “Level of Threat Deriving from Migrants.”

MAJ James Muhumuza, Uganda, “The Nexus between Porous Borders and Terrorism in the Eastern Africa: The Role of State and Non‐state Actors.”

Ms. Piret Pernik, Estonia, “Best practices in the development and application of whole‐of‐government and whole‐of‐nation collaboration models in the framework of cyber resilience.”

CAPT Hayden Pritchard, Trinidad and Tobago, “Security Sector Reform as a critical response to the rise of transnational criminal networks.”

Col Jose Fernando Reina, Colombia, “CTOC Implications of the Havana peace process between the Government of the Republic of Colombia and the guerrillas who became the biggest drug cartel.”

Mr. Vasko Shutarov, Macedonia, “A Net Assessment of the CVE efforts in the Western Balkans.”

Mr. Darko Terzic, Serbia, “Encountering Organized Smuggling of People on the Western Balkan Route.”

The overwhelming response to this year's program reiterates how many alumni want to stay connected and to continue the work started here.  We plan to offer this program again for 2018, the application period will be announced on GlobalNET and via email to all eligible alumni.  For the full story, please visit the GCMC public website at: http://www.marshallcenter.org/mcpublicweb/en/nav-itemid-fix-news-en/2112-art-news-3-7-dec-16-en.html
