Turkey's role after the Black Sea grain deal collapse has become even more critical

On 24 July 2023, The National (UAE) published NESA Center regular speaker Professor Michaël Tanchum's Op-Ed "Turkey's role after the Black Sea grain deal collapse has become even more critical."

Tanchum argues Ankara is a vital link in some of the Middle East’s most vulnerable countries' wheat-to-bread supply chain.

"To ensure sufficient supplies of bread in many of the Middle East’s distressed regions, the international community needs to work to ensure an adequate wheat is supplied to Turkey. For Iraq, Syria, Yemen and other countries in the region, Turkey is the indispensable link in the wheat-to-bread supply chain in the Middle East."

Professor Michaël Tanchum is a non-resident fellow with the Middle East Institute's Economics and Energy Programme. He also teaches international relations and political economy of the Middle East and North Africa at Universidad de Navarra in Spain, and is a regular speaker at NESA Center seminars.
