On April 30, 2024, Professor Celina Realuyo spoke on the fentanyl epidemic in the US and bilateral efforts to curb illicit fentanyl flows from Mexico in the US on the “Beyond Borders: Future Paths for Security Policies” panel at the US-Mexico Forum 2024 hosted by the UC San Diego. Other panelists included David Shirk and Cecilia Farfán from UCSD, Sandra Ley from México Evalúa and Ambassdor John Feeley, Executive Director, Center for Media Integrity of the Americas. The US-Mexico Forum intends to enhance cooperation between the two nations and in the North American region. This involves not only identifying potential frictions arising from their intense and asymmetric relationship but also formulating proposals to address these issues. Additionally, the Forum aims to spotlight the inherent opportunities within the relationship, both on a national and regional scale. With the 2024 presidential elections approaching in Mexico and the United States, the upcoming US-Mexico Forum is positioned to play a pivotal role as a policy gathering. This year’s edition invited scholars, policymakers, and experts to delve into the far-reaching consequences of decisions made by presidential candidates on crucial issues in both countries.
