By Paul Belkin

This article examines some of Europe’s critical energy security challenges and EU efforts to coordinate a common European energy strategy. The author explains how energy policy, still mostly decided on a national basis, is gradually seen in a wider European context and how it is slowly being integrated in the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). In addition, the article includes an overview of the broader trans-Atlantic energy security cooperation.
